HSC CRANES History

"Cranes are essential for creating our society and future."
Believing in these words, Sumitomo and Hitachi begun manufacturing cranes. Both companies have continued to develop their technologies to send out numerous innovative cranes and have continued to support Japanese economic growth together with their customers as a leading crawler crane company.

In 2002, Sumitomo and Hitachi joined hands to start off as Hitachi Sumitomo Heavy Industries Construction Crane Company Limited.

Furthermore, from 2018, we have begun a new chapter as a global expert in the field of crawler cranes in order to better meet the needs of our customers everywhere around the world, and we have moved forward with our new company name "Sumitomo Heavy Industries Construction Cranes Co., Ltd." and new brand name HSC CRANES.

Present-2018(HSC era)

2022 Became wholly owned subsidiary of Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd..
2019 Europe office was established.
2018 Changed name to Sumitomo Heavy Industries Construction Cranes Co., Ltd.
"HSC CRANES" as new brand mark was launched.
The Crawler Crane SCX-3 Series was winner of the GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2018.

2017-2002(PREV HSC era)

2017 Midterm management plan "for the Next Stage 2019" was prepared.
The SCX3500-3 model won the Machine Design Award: Grand Prize (Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award).
HSC Shares was transferred between parent companies.
2016 The 650TLX and SDX612 series of crawler cranes with telescopic booms won the Machine Design Award: Nippon Brand Prize.
2014 Midterm management plan "Breakthrough 2016" was prepared.
2013 SCX1200-3 won the Machine Design Award: Distinctive Merit Prize.
2012 On occasion of our tenth anniversary, the redesigned SCX-3 series was launched.
2011 Midterm management plan "Rebirth 2013" was prepared.
2010 6000SLX won the Machine Design Award: Nippon Brand Prize.
2008 SCX2000-2 won the Machine Design Award: Distinctive Merit Prize.
2007 Midterm management plan "Global HSC 21C" was prepared.
2006 HSC Crane Services was merged to HSC.
2005 UCX300, a wheeled crane, was launched.
The ATX series, all-terrain cranes, was launched.
2004 Hitachi Sumitomo Heavy Industries Construction Crane (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. established.
The manufacturing division opened its Nagoya plant.
2003 The Shanghai representative office was opened.
The SCX series was launched. Sales of two models, the SCX900-2 and SCX1200-2, begun.
Technical Crane Services Co., Ltd. [later called HSC Crane Services Co., Ltd.] was consolidated into the group.
2002 Hitachi Sumitomo Heavy Industries Construction Crane Co., Ltd. opened for business.

2001-1949(HCM/SHI era)

2001 HCM Sumitomo Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. formed an alliance with Tadano Ltd. in the crane business.
SHI Sumitomo Heavy Construction Crane was established as a corporate spin-off from Sumitomo Construction Machinery.
Sumitomo Heavy Industries formed an alliance in the crane business with Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. and Tadano Ltd.
2000 SHI Technical Crane Service Co., Ltd. (later called HSC Crane Services Co., Ltd.) established, specialing in crane maintenance and rental services.
1999 SHI The Nagoya plant acquired ISO14001 certification for environmental management systems.
1998 SHI The company acquired ISO9001 certification, an international standard for quality assurance, for its manufacture of cranes and foundation work equipment.
1997 HCM The company acquired ISO14001 certification for environmental management systems.
1996 HCM The Tsuchiura business division acquired ISO9001 certification.
1994 HCM The CX series, a fully remodeled version of the KH series, was launched.
1990 SHI Production begun of an all-terrain crane (fully hydraulic truck-mounted crane).
1989 HCM The Kasumigaura plant, a factory for mass producing transmission and other components, was completed in the vicinity of the Tsuchiura plant.
The company was listed in the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
1986 SHI Sumitomo and FMC established the joint venture company LBCE (USA). The company began sales of cranes in the US.
By way of a corporate spin-off from Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Sumitomo Construction Machinery was established as a vertically integrated company from manufacture to sales.
1985 SHI Shenzhen International Construction Machinery Corp. (China) established.
LS-215RH5 was awarded the 15th Machine Design Award.
1981 HCM Formed a business tie-up with Tadano, Ltd. in the area of truck-mounted cranes and crawler cranes.
1975 SHI Sales begun of fully-hydraulic crawler cranes.
1974 HCM Operations of the Adachi plant are consolidated into the Tsuchiura plant as part of a factory relocation plan and to reinforce production capacity.
1971 HCM Release of KH150, Japan’s first fully hydraulic crawler crane.
1970 HCM Hitachi Construction Machinery Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and the former Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd merged to form Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd.
SHI Sales begun of hydraulic truck-mounted cranes.
1969 HCM The construction machinery manufacturing division of Hitachi, Ltd. was spun-off as an independent company. It was combined with the Adachi and Tsuchiura factories to form Hitachi Construction Machinery Manufacturing Co., Ltd.
1965 HCM The various construction machinery sales subsidiaries of Hitachi, Ltd. were merged with Hitachi Construction Machinery Service Co., Ltd. to form the former Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd.
1964 SHI Began selling mechanical truck-mounted cranes under the “Sumitomo-Link-Belt” brand name.
1963 SHI Sumitomo Machinery Co., Ltd. [currently Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd.] created a construction machinery division. It entered into a technological partnership with Link-Belt Construction Equipment Company in the US [currently FMC Corporation] for crawler cranes and truck-mounted cranes. Sumitomo Construction Machinery Sales Co., Ltd. established as the exclusive sales distributor in Japan for construction machinery.
1957 HCM Developed the Hitachi U106 multi-purpose excavator.
1955 HCM Hitachi Construction Machinery Service Co., Ltd. established.
1949 HCM Developed the Hitachi U05 power shovel based entirely on Japanese technology.
